Systems Change

Highlights of my journey helping to extend learning time, strengthen school partnerships and expose more students to enrichment programs.  Along the way, I developed expertise in fundraising, operations, grants administration, and youth development.

2016 - 2018 | Working with the NYC Center for Youth Employment and the NYC Department of Education's (DOE) Office of Community Schools, I launched and scaled the CareerCLUE initiative, a career-readiness summer program, from 3 to 17 high schools. Supported the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development as they piloted and adopted CareerCLUE as part of the city-sponsored Summer Youth Employment Program.  Through classroom learning, weekly field trips to businesses and community service projects, students earn an academic credit and minimum wage while learning about 21st century job skills such as environmental sustainability, coding, mobile app development, video production, media and entrepreneurship.

Community Schools

2016 | Brought in as strategic consultant to help the DOE's Office of Community Schools secure more than $25M of competitive grants, which is funding 69 new community schools.

2015 | Built the business infrastructure for the NYC Community Learning Schools, a start-up non-profit created by the United Federation of Teachers. Established fiscal guidelines, operational procedures and Community School Director toolkit for
24 schools and more than 40 community partners.  Created grant management protocols and reporting for $4M portfolio.

2014 |  Worked with the National Center for Community Schools to help United Way of Greater Toledo develop a 3-year strategic plan designed to scale Toledo’s “Schools as Community Hubs” initiative.

NYC Connected Learning

2010 | Recruited at the DOE to build the operational and educational foundation for NYC Connected Learning, a $22M
citywide home-school technology initiative in 70 schools.  The program included distribution of computers in student homes, discounted broadband service,  professional development, school-based technology support, and implementation of digital literacy and citizenship curricula.

21st Century Community Learning Centers

2007 - 2010 | While working with the DOE's Office of School & Youth Development, I organized and administered a vast portfolio of 21st CCLC grants serving 55,000 students. Built a team of 11 Grant Managers and spearheaded two grant competitions which secured more than $26M to support after school programs in 50 schools.  To help bolster the youth development field, we launched a citywide training center, an evaluators' roundtable and the DOE's first after school information database - all still being used today by over 300 schools and partners.

School & Community Partnerships

2006 - 2010 | Centrally organized a $48M business infrastructure for school and community partnerships and after school programming at NYC Department of Education.  Collaborated with the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development to manage operations for Out of School Time and Beacon programs in over 300 schools.  Worked with United Way of NYC to administer the Attendance Improvement Development Prevention program in 40 schools.  Coordinated intra-agency and inter-agency grants, operational policies, fiscal guidelines and quality assurance.

2010 | MS in Change Management | Milano New School

2001 | BA in Sociology | University of Maryland, College Park
